Matt I reckon that news item warrants a new thread so everyone sees it.   So what does it mean, that they DON'T want our magazines after all?

not sure what it means.   Can someone here who's in the forces contact the guy in the BBC article to confirm?

From reading the report & listening to the bit with the SQL it seems more like what they are asking for is not to send stuff to 'A soldier'   I was raised in the army, & have had family serving until recently & can confirm that a parcel not addressed to anyone specific can cause problem for the forces post service.   The appeal jacks posted has someone for you to send stuff too, its to the Quarter Master, at Lashkar Garrison & then the BFPO number so I would say to go ahead & send it as its his request ... put a letter in with it I know you will get a reply off someone, just remember the postal limit pls or no one will get themThumbs Up   The postage is free( upto 2kg), all it would cost is the envelope. The postal address is you would like to help is:QM, TFH, Lashkar Gar, BFPO 715

They also said in the taped bit of the report that what they needed was books, mags etc etc (ones suitable bearing in mind where they are lol) as this is things they cannot get out there, where as stuff like shower gell shaving stuff etc etc they can.     PS ... I have dropped an email off to the CO at Lashkar via someone I know in Germany, I will let you know if I hear anything back ...

I have checked with MOD today today and they are saying food parcels are a no no but mags and books are more than welcome :)

I have just had a phone call from the MOD (in reply to my email) from Lt Col Simon Ettinghausen, he has adxdvised that sending one or two mags via the QM is ok however at the moment is is quite dangerous for them to get mail etc to the troops and so they would prefer if convoys etc carried mail from families, he has asked if you have a lot of mags to take them to the nearest unit (TA etc) to you and they will make sure they are shipped out with troops going over there, this way the weight of mags does not take up space that could carry letters, also although its a freepost to send stuff the post office charge the MOD by weight for what goes through them so this will be cheaper for MOD too
