Cold starting problem - ZZR600

OK I give up, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   the bike has been into the dealership who couldnt find anything wrong, they checked the fuelling and plugs (i am assuming the strength of the spark as well)   I am running silkolene pro FST in there.   Battery fully charged, heated the shed with a fan heater!   cold and/or wet weather, she just wont start, unless you use easi-start.  I am loath to do that unless absolutely necessary as apparently a bike can get addicted to it. (or is that one of those urban myths?)   So what do i try next?

Frag is yours the same as mine and has automatic fuel feed with no fuel tap ?  I found out last night that taking her out in minus 5 as soon as I stopped she wouldn't start again because the carb flaps would stick in placeand she definately wouldn't start if I used the choke....I just had to push the starter without any throttle whatsoever......does this make any sense to you ..cos I know I'm babling......tis same at work if it's peed it down all day and I forgot to cover her up...no choke and no throttle to start her again.............hope it has helped in some way even tho it doesn't sound possible

no mine has a fuel tap.  It sounds like you are suffering from carb icing there.  But will go and see if it works, brb

Herne, you are a star my friend, I owe you a pint, whether is beer or coffee!   She started on the button, then put the choke on to keep her running.   and yes you are right, it does sound daft, right up until the time it works ;)

Have just been reading the haynes manual..it says that it could be the vacuum hose and recomends you take it off then blow through it and replace

Have you thought of changing your plug caps. remember that was the fault on my BM whe she cut out on the way up to iron ore.

actually that could be the truth Herne, the scotoiler on the bike runs off the vacuum pipe  (thats correct isnt it PP? you are better at how those things work) and i did run out of scotoiler oil whilst in Ireland and it was after that happened that i got the problems.

Rig check your scott oiler/ if the black vacume pipe in not fullt lealed at either end then this caould cause the fault herne is describing in the manual

Theyre really weird bikes Phil ...the guy ( a mechanic) who I had the bike off said it would probably happen in the winter

Phil, will do when it is light, why didnt i Post earlier in the day!!!!! The caps etc are all ok it was checked at Rossy Kwak when it was serviced.    Think it may have been cause by running out of oil as it only happened after that, That would cause no seal wouldnt it? I should either get a bigger reservoir or remember to take some oil with me next time i go on one of my jaunts  lol

ZZR's and a lot of other Kwaks are prone to carb icing in winter Herne, its a known fault with them, hence i am trying Pro FST this year

My CB750 Iced last winter wondered what the f--- it was had just filled up day before so knew it was not running onto reserve! Resolved by chucking hot water at the bike from both directions (washing over all 4 carbs) Ignition iced up weds last week too Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol

Kawasaki's have always been buggers. they either need full choke and nothing less or no choke and don't touch it for five mins or it dies LOL   I've just done my mates GPZ600, new plugs,leads and caps. Got her running a treat......now he's dumped it on diesel and the needle floats jammed on number one causing it fill the cylinder/ airbox oh bliss and joy......tank off and carbies out!

I had the fan heater defrosting the front drum brake on the CG this morning, a hairdryer defrosting the cables and ignition lock, got it onto road to find clutch was frozen, pushed it back up path defrosted clutch, re drefrosted front brake, got to work, thought oh blow (or something simmilar but stronger) as the clutch and brakes had refrozen!!!! Shocked  It was a tad cold up this way this morning!

Try being this side of the Pennines!!!  I dont know why the cables and brakes are freezingf up, will have to ask Santa for a cable oiler and force some through and see if it makes a difference, and change the shoes as when they start to get a bit worn they can absorb moisture.  Highest temerature today over here, -2

I was stuck in Summerseat, literally, some twonk parked a car in such a way as to block the road for buses, myself, the bus driver behind me and two coppers were stood out in that snow, as it was warmer outside the bus than in it.  They engineers dont think that heating is necessary to fix as it isnt an MOT fail Angry
