Thought it would be a good idea for us to put down a few routes that we come across, maybe not the usual well beaten biking routes but the ones you happen across.....   and if you come across a good biking stop, maybe a welcoming cafe with views or layby with a decent butty van with views lol....

Today came back from exeter heading back to the depths of darkest Cornwall and there was a tail back of some 5 miles with an accident so went of route towards Tintagel had a look around then went towards a place called Port william its a mile of the main road but the little pub there is great and the views of the coast and sunset were spectacular.....and I've seen a few sunsets.....   After that I went on the A39 and back onto the A30 at India Queens. the A39 was a fantastic fast bit of road..much of it was 40 but hey what he hell it was smooth and good so had to give it a squirt and much fun was had......scenery along that coast is not to be missed all   Thumbs Up http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?rlz=1T4GGLL_enGB370GB370&...CBkQnwIwAA

If you're coming over the M62 from Yorkshire to Manchester and Liverpool, and got a bit of time to spare, then come off at junction 22 and follow the A672 over Moss Moor. Great road, butty van just over the brow of the hill half a mile from the M62 turn off. Downside if that it eventually fizzles out a bit in Oldham, but worth doing all the same.

So a request rather than a recomendation....what is the most interesting route from harrogate to the ponderosa other than motorway?

Probably most folks from this area will know it anyway, but there might be a few newbies who don't, so here goes. It's the 'Yorkshire TT',.. and it runs from Helmsley, where the farmyard do was, up to Stokesley.    Halfway up there is Chop Gate village, if you take the only turn to the west in there, it will take you up to the Lordstones Cafe, a nice view, but a tad draughty and I think still a (flat) gravel car park.    The road itself is often well policed, especially on a Sunday, and earlier on in the day is the best time to be on it, but after most of the fury creatures have gone home! The usual sharp crests, sweepers and a few nasty tighteners too,... hehe, lovely road!

The A25 between Guildford and Dorking is brilliant, nice and twisty, goes through several old typical English villages and there's Newland's Corner at the start of it ((Guildford way), which is a car park with a tea room, with views on the valleys down below.  Just gorgeous and usually full of bikers

Its great isn't it, you turn onto a road thinking more miles to go and it ends up putting the biggest grin on your face and reminds you what you love about biking all over again lol..... the 4 wheel tank drivers don't know what they are missing.....LOL

jj just googled for you. not good am afraid. only decent way to get around manchester is motorways on other roads it'll take all day just to get there! you could go a59 to the m6 and then mways to chester but once past there any of the A roads are good. if got time try b4407 you'll love it.

Julie if you drop down to the A628 near pontefract its not to bad a road and the bit over the moors is brillant if there's not to much traffic, its easer to take the motorway round Manchester and come of on the A556 to Chester and round on the A55 and then the A494 and on to the Ponderosa

Came across a top butty van yesterday.   I had a Bacon butty, it was a big round roll toasted, with about three slices of lean back bacon on it and a mug of coffee.   The butty was £2 seriously! The coffee 90p   The chef guy is a true butty van artist.   I better tell you where it is!   From Leek centre, take the A520, heading towards Stone.   3 to 4 miles out of Leek the van is in a Layby on the right. It's on the main road, the areas called Cheddleton and the nearest side road is called Ostlers Lane.   Give this one a go if your within 20 miles! He was doing some Staffordshire Oat cakes for another customer wrapped round summat or other that looked really top draw.

For bend heaven try the B1202 from Wragby to Bardney.

A good run is the a68 from the Edinburgh by pass towards Morpeth....over the Northumberland National Park to the A69 ( boring Motorway) heading into Newcastle, what a road very undulating with a few cary blind summits ( care required for overtaking, lots of bike deaths from road rockets on this route). But a most enjoyable road....   ....Bacon arnie stop is in Jedbourgh The Abbey Bridge Toll house Cafe....cracking big rolls with lots of lean bacon and good coffee too very cheap.... the whole town is free Wi fi as well.....

anyone going to Whitby try the back road off the A170 that starts at Kirkby Mills and goes up through Hutton le Hole [nice cafe here that has lovely cakes] then through Rosedale and Egton, it's not for speed freaks but is a great alternative to main roads and has some nice tight hairpin bends on it and is traffic free [but watch out for sheep] try it either way there both good

wetherby is getting popular for bikers, really good fish and chips from the wetherby whaler, still think the best are from wetwang out on the road to Bridlington.

An amazing road which I do every other weekend and think I have finally mastered the corners and where you can open the throttle is the A429 from Bourton-on-the-Water all the way through Warwick to the M40 Motorway! It's a brilliant stretch of roads with some great corners and long straights for getting speeds!!!
