If you break down at night in some country lane especially if you are a lone female biker. This is a list of all none emergency police numbers you should print off, stick in a pocket and leave there untill you need it.   Bad link removed. -Matt 2. If you are afraid or even worried then call 999, doing this on your mobile helps in two ways, it speeds up recovery but more importantly 999 automatically triangulates your position by mobile. So if you are lost we will find you. Control centres will have NO issue with a lone female biker calling 999 under duty of care.

Nope I cannot get it to work either, I have the number for Greater Manchester police stored in my mobile, but would revert to 999 if I was stuck alone some place & felt worried for my safety.

The Single Non Emergency Number (SNEN) is alive and well and living in Hampshire and Wales. Whilst Hampshire has been running for a while it would appear that the Welsh police forces have 'gone alone' with the idea and will be launching 101 as a SNEN in April 2009.   Jackie you don't need to remember them, not if ya print them off, but you may like to edit them before you do, as all the numbers seem to be duplicated.   Johnny that second link doesn't work either.

It's appreciated that you went to all this trouble to list the numbers, johnny. While I can understand the concern by the Fuzz with their emergency number being abused, it's getting a bit ridiculous to have to store all the non-emergency numbers. It would made more sense to have a dialing code for the area and a common number or for the control room to divert 999 calls that don't need an immediate response.

I once witnessed a deer being run over outside Aylesbury. It's hardly an emergency (although I'm sure it was for the deer) but I didn't know the non-emergency phone number so it's not unreasonable to dial 999. As it happened a local motorist who knew the number had also stopped to help. The deer died anyway. I don't suppose it would have been appreciated if I had treated it as an emergency and it seems that if you've just been burgled, that's not an emergency either. I would still call 999 and tell them to get off their lazy backsides.

I think it unreasonable to expect people from out of area to know the local non-emergency number or to carry a list of them in case they're needed. So I'll make a note of the one for Hertfordshire and call 999 when I'm elsewhere if I need their services.

Agree.... I have enough trouble remembering numbers etc, and another piece of paper stuffed in my wallet will soon get lost or thrown away! A central 'non emergency' number would be more sensible, in my opinion.   Back in the dark ages when I was in the Met, NSY control room, that took the 999 calls, simply transferred the non emergency calls to the relevant police station. But maybe they had more staff in those days.

Well guys you can do with the numbers what you wish, it was posted on facebook so I thought I would pass it on. It was said if you are a lone female and broken down on a dark road then call 999. This will make you a priority under duty of care and from a cell phone they automatically triangulate your position.

It is actually an offence to call 999 for trivial matters but it does divert the rozzers from doing something worth while...

Dialling 999 doesnt give you any sort of priority at all. Every call the police get is given a grading depending on circumstances. Granted that ringing 999 will give the operator your coordinates if you dont know where you are, but if you do know roughly where you are(ie the road from Skipton to Clitheroe for instance) then the normal number is sufficient. Obviously if you dont know it, then ring 999. You'll probably get a telling off but you are very unlikely to recieve a penalty for it. HTH

Hence DC it is actually an offence. I didn't say you would get done....look I thought I was doing a good deed passing on the info, the info about 999 came from the operater down in Hampshire I believe. so not first hand but as I say keep the numbers or don't you , you never know where you may need them and if deemed they will refer it up as a priority

I was wondering how you're supposed to know which area you are in.I live very close to the border of West Midlands, Warwickshire, and Staffordshire. I could be 5 miles from home and have no idea what county I'm in.Or maybe that's just me, I often don't know where I am.

If you break down on the motorway you dont have to walk down the hard shoulder to the nearest SOS phone you can dial 112 from your mobile

The reason this was posted on face book is there is a group not a club etc who have a saftey network for women bikers ie if they break down or have difficulties they call in on the duty number of there little group and some one will come help. Great idea no cost etc just a friends group. some girL messaged one of the guys in the group to enquire about membership, was told it isn't a join type thing as it is a group of friends but gave her a list of the non emergency numbers and the advice about 999 if alone and afraid etc. This info about 999 was given after consulting a 999 operater call center and I just thought it would be good to pass it on seeing as there are a fair amount of female bikers here.

Like I say if it's any good for you keep them if not continue to do what you would have done before..... No problem..... Is there?

DC don't take the huff your opinion is always valued lol
