Highway Code: your views needed

Given I am new here on this site, I would like to mention with regard to this topic that myself and it is purely my view. In regard to the highway code I both drive and ride and I use common sense when it comes to overtaking others and adapt a safe distance and place to pass. As long as I drive appropriately in all other situations I don't see what difference the highway code makes.
