With this great weather I expect most will again be enjoying the pleasures of summer riding, but by the menace that is Covid19 it’s easy to forget the other dangers that exist when on the road. I’d like to share an embarrassing, but true, story so that others might learn from it and not make such a monumental boob of themselves….

Many years ago, I was riding my bike on a sunny summer’s day near the streets where I lived. As I pulled up to a junction, I noticed an attractive young lady walking along the path.

I was so mesmerized by how beautiful she was that, without checking the road was clear, I rode my bike straight across the junction.

I was hit by a car that sent me crashing through its windscreen. My bike was wrecked, but I walked away without a scratch, and only my pride bruised! I didn’t even get the ladies name.

Anyone else got an embarrassing story perhaps about being young and inexperienced or perhaps just not concentrating when riding? Share your brain farts!

Knew a coloured guy in Gloucester who broke both arms when he rode into the front of a bus in Barton Street...too busy checking how TOTALLY COOL he looked on his new bike in the shop window reflections..bike was write-off..less than 20 miles on the clock..doh!

Ye a few similiar stories here.

My mate going through centre of town on his Honda SS 50. Filing through the high street, with his 3 friends in front, he noticed a fit girl with short skirt n all on the side path. Taking his eyes off the road and goggling at the girl, all of a sudden everything stopped in front of him, he couldn't react in time and piled straight into all his friends in front. Imagine the chaos and surrounding laughter as they all ended up in a heap of tangled metal, picking themselves off the floor😂

Me and a friend, one cold crisp damp early autumn night, stood outside our local pub, viewing one of the then new Kawasaki Zephyr's. As we stood there the owner came out and as he got on it and started his machine we asked some general questions about his brand spanking new bike, which was first time out. Then he proceeded out of the car park and onto the road. Unfortunately he pan handled it and with the damp roads and cold tyres he came sliding off, with him going one way and the bike the other. Imagine his embarrassment and anger. It didn't make it much better when I retrieved his new but now mangled machine and calmly stated " Oh it's okay lad, it's only superficial damage" 😂🤭 if looks could kill.

Good thread Mark, you were very lucky to survive. Do you pay more attention now? Lol

My 'brain fart' was repeated often, when I first started riding, forgetting to take the security chain off before setting off. Jeez that was so embarrassing. 🤣

..it depends Sandi..if the wife is with me then very much so lol!! Leaving the chain on is a classic mistake, I've also seen it when a disc lock's been left on...not my error luckily lol!!

I was going to ask you Mark if the attractive young lady at the junction and point of accident was the one who became your wife 🤭

But you've answered the question answering Sandi, so obviously not 😁😂

Did the same along botley road in Oxford a few years a go, nearly ran into the back of a slow moving car. Definitely pay more attention to the road now
