I think it may have to go.
I've only had it up to 1/2" long a couple of times, but even with washing/shampooing every day I end up with mass breakouts underneath when it's at that stage. So it's stays around the stubble-ish level to be comfortable

Have you been oiling the beard Pan? Oil and balm does help with itching and reduces breakouts, but if you can't get on with it then probably best you shave it off.
