Why are side stands always on the left?

A bit late now ,but.....looking back through a load of ancient magazines in my attic last week...some old 'pukka trials' machines had a rear prop stand on the right AND left,ditto some specialised enduro bikes,to aid rear tyre/chain jobs,without the weight of a centre stand...i'll try and put the pictures onto my p.c. and post thm up on this thread..:)>

Just a thought, old bikes were heavy, lots of cast iron, barrels & heads plus everything was metal not plastic. Our right leg is the strongest so we lean the bike over slightly to the right to fold the side stand down holding the bike up with our strongest leg. Many early bikes didn't have side stands & the center stand actually lifted the rear wheel clear of the ground. Kick starts generaly were on the right for perhaps the same reason, those that had a left kickstart probably had it there for reasons to do with the engine / gearbox internal layout.
