Here's a topical one - with the snow an all - wot I wrote
EVEREST
Chomolongma – the living mountain
Awakens a hunger that breeds
On restless anticipation.
Your primal territorial instinct
Yearns to proclaim ownership,
To embark on a formidable
adventure
Of unknown parameters.
Heightened senses absorb
The portentous impact of
Each glacier, serac and crevasse;
Each couloir, col and cornice.
Every gravity-laden step is
hindered
By a tempestuous, ruthless
assault.
Moisture is vacuumed from every
breath,
Your freeze-dried face full of
hope.
One more step and
One scant breath
One more and
One more.
You glance up to a wall of ice
You glance again; the same.
One more step and
One scant breath
One more and
One more.
Breathe in the sky!
You are stunned into a state
of exquisite transcendence, as
Colossal landscapes do battle to
enter your eyes.
You are loath to relinquish your
stake
As Mother, Goddess of the Earth
embraces you.
The jet stream serpent screams
for your descent
Through the desiccated litter of
failed explorers
Gorged on by the black Gorak
ravens.
And your reward for offerings of
Spirit, sacrifice and endurance
Is life,
Tea,
And biscuits.
