Only just seen this thred but for what it's worth side stand on the pavement side = less chance of keeling the bike over when mounting up, it's always taught to us to get on the bike from the left due to it leaning towards you! If it leans away from you it'd be all too easy to help the bike fall over as you mount it from the pavment. Plus kick starts also opposite side on the "stronger" or more common right leg.

Hull if the stand was on the right you'd mount it from the right so it's still leaning towards you except you'd be standing on the road and not on the pavement!

Only in countries that drive on the left RK. Take Europe for example,side stand on the right would mean leaning towards the pavement.
In that cae maybe centre stands were made for all countries.

Just had a conversation with a Mech Eng based at Birmingham Uni and he is adamant the reason behind the side stand being on the left is that most people are right handed, so therefore its easier to push when you stand to the left. Another great theory to add to the list !!!!
