Is it just me, or do any of you bikers find that chilling out doesn't usually include a challenging game of backgammon? It is all very well riding off into the dawning day, heading for something new to mark today different from yesterday, but what do you do when you get there?
Mooch around, admire the views, dip your toes in the sea if you are at the coast and it isn't two miles out across the flats. Have a cuppa (minimum units). Have a proverbial ice cream or fish & chips - ahrrr Sherringham!
Now how about an absorbing game of backgammon?  Older than chess and just as exciting.
Hands up any backgammoners out there.

Ah, memories.  I didn't play it as a youngster, but was introduced to it on one of the Ramblers (walking not talking) outings. Sorry dunans, but it isn't a war game but an absorbing strategy game.

At last, thanks sv_shell.  Good to hear it is still alive.  Do you have a local BG group to keep your skills honed?

If any of us have the brains, could we work out how to do a biker championship? Something like the Canonball Run... only weirder. Including, let’s say, the water hole, hats with horns, an intimacy with anonymous Hindu goddesses (with lots of hands), straight through exhausts and oodles of beer?

Spacedaag, you lost me after the watering hole.  I reckon if there is enough interest we could have a go at an event, small though the number might be.
If there is enough interest, we could have a ride-out to a fairly central location. Any suggestions from anyone?

I enjoy backgammon too! Used to have a lovely board but it went "missing" after my partner and I split up :(   Regards rides out, I agree it's interesting to do something different rather than simply ride in circles or return to the same cafe again and again.  I enjoy historical stuff so am a member of English Heritage - they're good places to go in your bike gear as most locations are already in ruins lol I also like to pack the tent & head off somewhere interesting rather than aim for a drunken biking binge - great for the odd weekend but soooo much to see in the world...... :)

I like your idea pumpkin and perhaps WheelyNealy could suggest where good fish & chips can be had.

I have been doing quite a bit of rambling around Staffs and Derby with my brother and find a rest stop can be enhanced with the odd game.

We need a short-list of suggested ride-outs.  Any offers?
