We went out for a ride yesterday so I filled up, like y'do.
£1.68 a litre 😖😖😖
At Penrith I saw a garage selling it at £1.59 a litre, "that's cheap" I thought. It's terrifying how quick we adapt to a new normal 😳
No cake on yesterday's ride 🙁

The fuel prices are rising so rapidly is scary!
izzyhill
Danny sees prices going up anything from 5p to 8p per litre from driving past in the morning to coming back a few hours later.
Ragnar
On my way home from work one garage was at £1:68 and just over a mile down the road at a supermarket it was £1:55
jimtom31
its £1,54 on the wirral yes its going to get worse , yesterday a supper tanker unloaded its gargo of oil at shell refinery this would have been bought some months back when prices was lower. strange how prices went up before it arrived yes . its also strange that goverments exact price rises when ever there a war check out the history from 1980`s to today, up and up and up never down. next month we all get a fuel payment arround £160 to help fuel costs thats 44 pence a day. or a the differance in fuel rise per ltr to your tank per fill i gallon will be about £2 more soon . so how can oil companies know its going to rise before the onset of a war as the ship left some time before it kicked off.

Question is would you give up riding if it was £2 a litre ??
izzyhill
No,Tiger, we wouldn't, and for some its not a matter of choice, but others might cut back.
I remember a friend back in the 80s saying she'd stop smoking when a pack cost more than £x - she didn't.
Steve_H
I can't see me giving up riding, but I might look at downsizing and trade mph for mpg.
Ragnar
I had to get rid of one of my Triumph's because of London's ULEZ and I've bought a Honda 300 twist & go which returns around 70mpg in town, So the money I was saving before is now lost on the price rise.
Steve_H
At this rate I might end up with a 300cc twist and go. My current scooter is more of a twist and guzzle... 😏
Strom67
I'm surprised bike manufacturers haven't gone the same way as car manufacturers and made smaller turbo engines.. Imagine a 300cc parallel twin with 100bhp and 100mpg???
Steve_H
There are a lot of 300cc bikes that will do 80 to 100mpg by just sipping fuel and going relatively slowly.
Stick a turbo on there and you'll be able to go fast, so you will, so you'll guzzle fuel and be back to 55mpg.
It difficult to get much more than 30% efficiency from an infernal combustion engine whichever way you cut it, even big marine diesel 2 strokes struggle to achieve 50%.
Strom67
So maybe hydrogen fuel cells are the way to go?
rocker21
riding my little SR400 yam, it does over 80 on E5 but 70 on E10, going to be using it a lot more for day to day use,
Steve_H
I'm still doing the sums. I know I get better results from 'super' fuels and have ran about 1 tank in 4 on super for years mainly for the cleaning aspect but now I need also consider the E10 vs E5 mpg thing.
rocker21
It's well known you get less mpg the more ethanol you have, ethanol has a lower calorific value, so you need more of it to keep the same performance, so it's not green , and it's still a hydrocarbon
jinx57
E10 is simply chemical shite, good luck to anybody using it...average per litre around Gloucestershire this week seems to be £1.63 -ish,but varies town to town..

If I could get it for the price shown at start of this thread I would be happy lol
However at the risk of being reminded that I simply ride too slow – my 890R is still returning 77mpg average Steve!
Steve_H
A long time ago Pete I took the Tenere on a ride with a couple of Harley riders doing their weekend cruiser thing.
I averaged 74mpg 😲
But it was very, very slow.
The Tenere is a heavy old dinosaur usually happier at 56mpg with a plummeting scale against luggage and speed.
On this basis 74mpg sound good, but I suspect I could have cycled quicker...
Mister Pete - Optimi
True but what I find quite interesting is that:
My 990 was itching for a refill at the 100-110 mile mark (as you may recall) and had a 19litre tank
The 890R will do close to 200miles but only has a 14litre tank – but is a good 30kg lighter!
Anyway sun is out so off for a spin.
