A CRASHED bike was taken from the scene of an accident 16 August 2012 in Stourport, Worcestershire, as its injured rider lay dying nearby. His helmet was also taken.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to both the accident and the removal of the bike, described only as being black-and-red.

The rider, who has not been named but is described as in his 20s, died at the scene of the accident, which happened at 6.38pm outside the Brinton Arms pub on Bewdley Road. His bike had been removed before police arrived.

PC Gary Otun of West Mercia Police said: "A young man has tragically lost his life and our thoughts are currently with his family. For the purposes of investigating this incident it is vital that we find the motorcycle and those who took it away. The rider's helmet was also taken from the roadside but we recovered that nearby.

"Within minutes of this incident there were a lot of people on the scene including people who had been inside the pub. I would urge them to come forward if they saw the bike being removed or anything else that could help our inquiries.

"It is important that we establish why and how this happened and I would also appeal to anyone who saw the collision or the bike being ridden there beforehand to get in touch with us. The smallest detail could be of value to us."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact PC Otun in the Force Operational Support Team (FOST) at Rubery Police Station by calling the non-emergency number 101 and quoting the incident reference 600-S-150812.

Stourport has a very large number of the Caravan Utilising Nomadic Traveller Society living in the area. i'm guessing the bike was removed for a reason.
