hey nice one Terry, we do a fair few ride outs/meets on here too, check out the events. sometimes its 'spur of the moment' stuff and will jus announce it in the forums or even the chat rooms..   like me Chunkichick, Caz36 and Triker did one sunday..   bored.. chatting..next thing we had all met up and rode down to Matlock Bath ! lol   My main 'problem' is that I'm not quite confident enough to actually get to a meet on my own yet.  I have managed Squires on my own a couple of times, but thats after a fair few 'escorted rides'   But me aside, theres plenty of people on here up for ride outs, specially up your way and Nth Yorks and if the roads arent L suitable theres usually the offer of a pilly. Smile

having just come in on the end of this thread no coments on counter steering with footpegs and a presumption that everybody is riding stock sports bikes tourers sports tourers counter steering on the bars on a harley with 21 inch front wheel and apes does not work well a lot of harleys chops cruisers work better using the footpegs/footboards

Not so much the counter steer at speed that gets you with cruisers its the low speed handling. My first go on a forward control chop I freaked totally trying to filter at low speed as I couldn't work out how to balance and make small adjustments without shifting my weight on the pegs. It took me a while to work out the shift your weight by hips/behind bit.

Well that's a really interesting point PD... and considering that Lamble was an instructor in the States, where cruisers & chops are far more prevalent than any other style of bike, then perhaps it's not surprising that counter steering was included as part of basic training?

What is somewhat surprising though, is that it took until your post to point out that counter steering on such bikes is not done via the handlebars, but via the foot pegs.

This thread has been really informative and hopefully useful for experienced riders as well as the newbies and wannabes among us. Professional training has got to be the way to go though, rather than taking any post in isolation and dashing out to try the technique on your pride & joy Wink

I have mid-controls and flat bars on my Nightster but as I have highway pegs fitted for distance work I thought I would give punkdudes technique a try...   However by the time I had lent forward and got my hands on the footpegs I was already halfway round the corner and couldn't really see where I was going, let alone try to press down on them!   Back to the drawing board, I guess! TC - wrong choice of bike, if you had a nice Ural Wolf the forwards are so high up you wouldn't have had to move far from the bars.

just me with my 2penneth again.. i've always used the footpegs for countersteering, regardless of the bike, so really, just use what feels right for you! Thumbs Up
