But according to the message you get when you click to send a private message, if you give out your email address you will automatically receive a permanent ban.  Is this correct ? I would also still like clarification that private messages, are just that private ... or are they checked?

no you wont receive an automatic ban - it will depend on the circumstance.   yes messges are private.  Only the police can gain access (via myself directly only) to your PMs.   If you break the rules, i.e. you post your email address in your profile or a PM, then I will personally get a message to check the circumstances.  I will see who sent the PM and who they sent it to, then if I can see a history between the 2 users I wont go any further.  If there is no history of discussion between the 2 users then I will look into it.  I will also see if many other PMs have been sent out by the same user with the same title or body.   That makes sense i hope

How do I as a Full Member communicate with a Standard Member if I cannot send my e-mail addy or receive a PM from that person?? Are you forcing everyone to buy the Full Membership so that they can chat?   TIA   steelydan998

Hi mate,   The other members should get a full membership.   There are too many scammers that use this site (And other sites) to con people into giving out their email addresses.  They join, create a nice profile, then PM thousands of members saying "Hi I like you, bla bla bla, send me an email at....".  Then when you email that address, your email address gets sold on.   This rule is to protect our members, and I hope you can understand

Matt   Thanks for the quick response.   I take it that you would have no objection to members arranging to chat using MSN Messenger or similar?  There is no need for e-mail address disclosure there, so no scamming.   steely

How do you add folk to your buddy list, to chat, on MSN messenger if you don't have their email address? Confused

Kwak (thinks...) Unhappy   I suppose you could just PM your username on MSN to your buddy and arrange to go on-line to find each other at a pre-arranged time....  that would be a safe way of contacting each other....   Shall we try it out??? Smile   steely

oh get a room! LOL   People tend to meet at our events and then swap details, it's the safest option.   Dan - I've had (on 3 occassions) members contacting me to ask me to fix their "stalker" problems because they gave out their details too soon.  One person started seeing someone who was married, but the person didn't advertise on their profile they were married.... then when the husband found out, there were death threats flying around the place and everything.  That was the last straw really, I don't want any legal action being taken against me.   So what I say now - is use the site to arrange events, meet up (preferably at a group event), then exchange contact details IF YOU TRUST the person.  And always understand that I take no responsibility if you end up needing to change your phone number, email address, etc because you're being stalked by a psycho  Thumbs Up

Steely, now I'm completely confused (no change there then lol) When I want to chat to someone on MSN messenger I have to add them to my buddy list by using their email address, or give them my email address so they can add me. I'm sure we could arrange something, just not tell them it's you. Once they know it's you, they'll run the other way

Stalker? I had one of those a few years ago, via an internet chat room I used to go to, he threatened to find out where I live and come kill me just cos I told him I didn't want to meet up with him (cos he was a bit 'odd') Apparently some of the other folk in the room had already had contact with him (a bikers chat room)and said they couldn't get rid of him, he'd turn up at midnite uninvited/unexpectedly at their homes expecting to be welcomed in. He followed me all over the net, and caused me problems on another site, so much so that other members thought I was him pretending to be 2 people! and they verbally abused me because of him.
