Don't need to destroy them, they're all being switched off due to politics.
Local Authorities pay for the upkeep/running, but the revenue goes to central government, consequently the LA's are cutting off the supply.
The Tories have bitten one of the hand's that feed them in this case - mwaahaaahaaa

Its strange how speed cameras are never in the places that really need them, like outside of schools. The US has in spot on in most states. They have a 20mph restriction outside all schools, and just in case you don't realise where the restriction starts or finishes, the roads either have box junction type pain, or coloured shell dip.

Another tip.
If you do go through a speed camera and get flashed, don't be tempted to go back and trash it.
People used to do this back when cameras had film in them. They'd trash the camera and take the film and if they got caught, as long as the film had been damaged, the worst they'd get is done for vandalism (which can be a less onerous punishment than getting banned and fined.)
However, now most are digital with a BT connection to the local safety partnership.
What this means is that seconds after you've been caught by the camera, the evidence is winging it's way down a phone line. In other words, it's already long gone and there's nothing left in the camera that you can remove to save yourself.
Also, if the power or BT connection gets severed, the camera will log the time. And if this time happens to be only a few minutes after you've been nicked for speeding, you're likely to find yourself before the beak under suspicion.
