My laptop has died, hard drive anyhow, taking a LOT of my work with it (stuff that wasn't backed up). Please be patient with me at the moment when contacting me for support.   Thanks

nah Phil, the drive is kapotski.  Just grinds and bleeps.  Can't be detected under any system.   I was gonna back up the laptop this weekend also, so I'm really miffed off now.  I think it got heat stroke.   Had a lot of BM stuff as well as my day-job stuff, so I'm really in trouble tomorrow at work now.  Really can't believe it.

Matt!  It is possible to save the hardrive if you buy a new one of the exact same model!  Swap out the internal hardrive centre spindle from new drive into broken one (should really be done in clean room, but I've done it, with success)  You will only require small watch makers screwdrivers, maybe alan keys or star drives of same kinda size!  It's a bit of a fiddely job, but can be done!  I've assumed it's the bearing and spindle because of your description of grinding!

(Worked as a hardrive quality control technician for Hewlett Packard)
