I've just heard that the 60s racer Keith Heckles, who lived just round the corner from me in Liverpool, died suddenly at the weekend at the age of 75. In terms of his results, Keith was one of the nearly men of racing, but he was a top rider, make no mistake. He'd still turn out for classic events, and anyone who went for a blast with him to somewhere like Rivi or down the Welsh borders would be left in his wake. All-round decent guy, and father to Mark Heckles who raced in WSB. RIP.
