This is a study from Japan
Whilst we know that physically riding is good for the body. It seems that it is also good for the brain. See this link.

Interesting report, but it doesn't surprise me.
Riding a bike does bring together a lot of cognitive and physical activities, which is pretty much a modern version of what we have evolved to do i.e. throw pointy sticks at big dangerous animals and run away.
I expect if the study had looked at mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing etc it would have shown similar results.
The other aspect, mental health benefits of bike riding, are something those of us who have experienced 'underpants on head' have know for a long time.
