You just can't help feel the powers that be use motorcyclists as the scapegoat, easy target for legislation and I think personally a hidden agender to ultimately put as many walls and restrictions on the route into motorcycling as they can, after all the less people taking up two wheels the better their pathetic stats look
Don't get me wrong the training side is always going to help but once again money seems the top priority, making bikes more and more un-obtainable and just a down right pain in the arse to achieve.
Once more the onous is placed on the motorcyclist to over compensate for other majority ( voters ) road users and their lacking

I'm afraid
this subject really annoys me, it cost bikers a lot of money to take their test and then be restricted how much hp they can ride, then take another test for bigger cc & hp. The dip shits that take their car test when they pass if they have more money than sense can go and buy any car they want instead of being restricted to low hp band for so long and take another test like bikers for higher hp band.
My thoughts are everyone should be made to ride a motorcycle/scooter for at least two years before taking a car test and they only get three attempts to pass, after that they cant try anymore.
I would be interested in other members thoughts on this.

Restrictions on cc I have no qualms about, riding skills are easier to pick up on bikes that you can ride to their potential, the extra test though is purely monetary , as for car drivers , making them ride motorcycles will never happen, yes they'd be more road and hazard aware but can you imagine the field day the government suits would have with the accident stats. The limited test tries seems a tad draconian too as I know people who've failed multiple times and I'm perfectly happy to be a passenger, some people just don't do well on tests, others who've passed first time have physically aged me whilst sitting in the passenger seat, My pennies worth would be the test is part of set lessons till well trained instructors determine you've completed a module till you've become proficient to hold a licence for car bikes or any other form of transport

All motorists in general are an easy target for the powers
that be for raising revenue; a tax on personal mobility that for most is
unavoidable as successive governments over decades have failed to support and
promote public transport.
However, I agree with ExupRich, there does also appear to be an emerging agenda
(some individuals are quite blatant) to make those who choose two wheels over
four not only to have increased licence restrictions and contribute more
financially for the privilege but generally be discouraged.
Often the argument is forwarded that this is being done on
the grounds of road safety as being more vulnerable proportionally a greater percentage of those on two
wheels are injured or killed, the additional ’measures’ endorsed as a way of reducing
casualties. This conveniently ignores the fact that
only a small percentage of the casualties occur in isolation and often four
wheels are involved yet there is no hint of legislation to restrict and
penalise car drivers in the same manner. If it’s a safety issue then surely all
road users should be subject to a common regime in this regard?
I also have no qualms about some form of structured and
measured progression and am of the opinion that this appears to help reduce
casualties. Power and time limits for all would be logical but to test the same
competency again and again with an added
financial penalty and apply it to only one type of minority road user is not
only unfair but illogical if the implied aim is universally increased road
safety and casualty reduction.

All these numpties in suits care about is their stupid stats, simply put motorcyclists are easy prey , they don't care the cause of the figures just the easiest way to doctor them and get a pat on the back, after all one less biker put off by over legislation and costs is one less bike a car can pull out on and whilst they're at it , why not fleese some money if they do persevere, in their eyes it's a win win, , I can't see how any of this re=testing will affect safetywhen a middle to latter aged DAS rider who may have the spare funds can decide 'I want to get my bike test, book a course with test and within a few weeks be riding a brand spanker BMW1000ss, it'll just put off the young next generation of bikers

regarding accident rates of car vs bike, the biggest issue is the bloody courts not throwing the book and the idiot drivers - SMIDSY should amount to an admission of minimum driving with due care and attention, and even better an admission of dangerous driving - it's clearly bloody dangerous to pull out without looking!!!
As to the whole licence nonsense - I actually would have no issue with it IF the same type of vehicle power restrictions applied equally to car drivers.
Of course, they don't. So I detest them.
The government won't change it either - they see us as a powerless minority that they can fuck over as they please, but by the time you're old enough to drive a car, you have a vote, and they're shit feart of pissing off too many car drivers - which is just about every single voter!

The CBT is a good thing and should be compulsory for all car drivers.
Let them get an idea of just how exposed a rider is on a bike and them maybe they will open their fu*king eyes when they pull out of junctions.
Not a hope in hell I know but I can dream.
As for the HP restrictions on new riders part of me sees the sense of it but the 18 year old in my head thinks it's a bloody stupid idea and I'm glad it wasn't there back in 74 when I took what passed for a test of my proficiency on two wheels.
As to the courts attitude to motorbike accidents what comes to mind is that they are of a class and generation whose attitude is "We don't want your sort on our roads" Yes that old stigma is still alive and well.

If the suits want good stats then they need to get all the one person cars off the road and make them ride. Less 4 wheel traffic no need to build bigger roads and less jams on the roads we have. Less emissions and reduced additions to global warming. Think of all the highly polluting diesel cars that could be replace with small petrol bikes because the new bikers with L plates will be restricted

We older bikers originally took to bikes in many cases because that's all we could afford. We then fell in love with them and carried on with them even after we bought cars. I sort of agree with hp limits because the performance of today's bikes compared to when I started riding is hugely different. What I do disagree with is the need for test after test for young bikers and the associated cost which isn't there for young drivers. There has to be a better and fairer way of allowing young riders to acquire a bike license. My son wants a bike and had a scooter for a year but he has recently took his car test because he could reasonably afford to continue to progress with bikes, I just hope he goes back to it later but I believe young potential riders are missing out on experience because of the dock dance surrounding bike licensing.
