Is BM a dating site?

After reading and posting on the protecting members thread it seems BM is confused about what it is.

I think it's down to whatever each member wants or needs from it Yam - I've used it for both and it's worked well for me on both counts!

Does it have to be an either/or??

I agree with Rossi, I think its down to the individuals interpretation of the site.  I have met people off this site and found them all to be friendly and approachable.  I also have people whom I have never met as cyber buddies and I'm sure I'll get to meet them in the end as well, but have made strong friendships with the non the less.  I think that the idea of it being a social site as well as perhaps meeting someone special made me join up, it wasn't just the thought that it was a dating site.

I think when Matt 1st thought of it it started life as a dating site ... over time its evolved & whilst is still a dating site, for some its a social site where they can attend events & maybe start dating someone they meet.

My old bike instructor (Big Liam) started on here & within a month had met someone & they are now living together.

Then you have others who met at social events 1st & started dating from that.

Like life, its what you make of it Thumbs Up

Totally agree with Rossi on this Thumbs Up    I tell lots of people about the site and I always promote it as a social networking site and not a dating site Handshake

For me bm is a biker socialising/networking site; but it's lovely that people meet their partners on here too. As others have highlighted, it's down to the individual...

I changed my profile description because I didn't want the attention of guys looking for a date, I prefer face to face contact... my individual choice.

Online dating obviously works, it's just not for me...

I think it's fairly predictable that those that use the forums and chat room will say that this is a social site. For about 50 or 60 people that may be true but there are thousands on this site.  I don't think there all going to squires for a cuppa tea and a meat pie. I've been a member on here for 3 years now and have to agree with Rossi ..... It's both.

BM is what you want it to be firstly i think its a social site to meet other bikers and get together.

The dating part comes if that is what your looking for or maybe even if your not.

Either way you must remember the safety aspects when you meet up if on your own ..... and i think that is was Matt is trying to push home .... And if you do arrange a meet wether it be with one person or a group and you can't make it for whatever reason ..... Courtesy does'nt take much so let them or someone know.... If its one person it saves them making an unnesessary journey and if its a group and there is a rideout involved they are not hanging around waiting for you.

I came across the site by chance last year, it did come across in the name as adating site, but after looking around, i joined it as a social network site and to possibly meet a soul mate, but sorry to say think as others have said, some people aren't what they make out to be!!!
have pm some ppl and had no reply, i think that's so rude, i have made a few good friends though Thumbs Up

i agree with you retrofan... hence why i changed my profile.. the people i attracted seemed to have split personalities lol... thank god i met some "normal folk" otherwise i would have closed my account a few weeks back.
some people have been on dating sites for years, they know exactly what to say/do to mislead people.. they even reinvent themselves online... scary indeedy!!!   in fairness, bm is a safe place, matt seems to be on the ball which is more than i can say for most networking sites! ive read several threads and all the bm staff stress about being safe when arranging to meet up.   Thumbs Up

hi geordielass , yeah i think you're right there, i'm changing my profile asap, just using bm as  a social site from now on, to find out when events take place and the forums, had  my fingers burnt a few weeks ago, turned out a lady was already attached, so lesson learnt there.   yes bm seems to be a nice safe site, hope Matt can keep it that wayThumbs Up.

retro sorry to hear you fell for the double life syndrome, they are very good liars hun.. ive seen an element of that first hand at rallies ive attended (we should have a thread to name and shame them lol).. i dont judge people but strongly dont believe in people deceiving their partners whether dating or married.. its just morally wrong!

yes i agree with you geordielass, it's wrong to decieve ppl that you're single, divorced, when you've someone in the back ground, i take ppl to be teling the truth when ppl, well some can lead you on , but lesson learned.   it's bad enough on the site , but at rallies !! never been to a rally yet, maybe i'l stay away, really don't want that Thumbs Down happening.

BM is what you need it to be at the time. As a social tool it has provided me with some absolutely fab mates and aquaintences I would have never have met otherwise.

Now look what you gone & done GL .. You've put Retro off going to rallys he he   My twopence worth :   As most people on here, I think this site is great as it is. You can treat it as a dating site or a social site and I dont think it should change ................ If was designated a social site .. what you gonna do to people if they start dating ...... Conversely .. if its a dating site .. are you gonna remove every one who has no interest in dating ? This is an easy going, chilled site as far as I'm concerned .. I've met people and I've chatted to people on here. In all cases, every one knew what was occuring.   This opinion is mine .. I paid good money for it Big smile
